The first major battle of the Fifth Coalition on the Danube. Exploiting Napoleon's war in Spain, Austria struck an incomplete French force and won a tactical victory. Marshal Lannes and General Saint-Hilaire were mortally wounded; six weeks later Napoleon answered with victory at Wagram.
